If I wanted an epic, I'd read "gone with the wind"
Johnnie Moore is a tad peeved:
| ...But for today, I'm sick of business books.
There are too many of them and I can't possibly keep up. |
I was thinking about this just yesterday. For me though, the problem isn't just that there are too many business books, it's more that the books are way too long.
We're spoiled, we want our content served on a platter, in bite-sized, easy to digest chunks, and why not? The authors though, in what can only be considered arrogance, are still serving us a 7-course banquet.
This is a serious problem.
I'm generally sold (or not) on the concept by the end of the first chapter anyway, the rest is just excessive proof of the point.
Basically, if you can't get your message across in 100-pages, you're sending the wrong message...!

Crap! I went over by 60 on my new book. Wait . . . what size type? ;)

LOL, I was thinking exactly the same thing the other day. My current project has the potential to be an academic success but perhaps also a useful business book -- but I can't think how to expand the concepts to the size needed to justify a book! I'm a strong believer in simple ideas being powerful.

Bring on the exec summary...
Rich...! Maybe we're just getting wiser / older and get stuff quicker - what's next!!
A bit like taking 4 days to write a beautifully crafted 40 page proposal/tender - or just writing the non bullshit relevant facts and a guideline cost into an e-mail!
Which is smarter? Less is more...

Yeah, my quotes are getting much shorter these days. I just found that people jumped straight to the numbers anyway.
Just enough is still enough...!
