A book I can't wait to review!
Steven Streight, the "official blogologist of BLOGthenticity Group Business Blog", doesn't see the point of RSS feeds. This in itself may not be news, however what made me post this is that Steven is about to get published:
| BOOK UPDATE: My book "Secrets of the Blogging Pros" has now entered serious negotiations with a top technical book publisher. "Secrets of the Blogging Pros" is racing to its pre-determined destiny: the Authoritative Treatment of Blogging's Best Practices according to the most popular and successful practitioners. |
Let that sink in for a sec.
A guy who's against syndicating content (and trackbacks) is writing a how to book on blogging. That's just crazy. Here's some of Steven's great wisdom:
| RSS feeds "push" content at users. |
Yes, once those users have subscribed.
| Link Overload: I have bookmarked so many favorite sites on both my Internet Explorer and Firefox browsers, I can't manage them very efficiently. |
Am I missing something here? That's exactly the point of feeds, I guess you're against del.icio.us too?
| Redundancy: It would be a duplication of effort to have an RSS function blinking or otherwise trying to remind or alert me about more stuff to consider reading. I already visit many sites every day, or at least on those days when I have the time to do it. |
It would only be redundant if you kept visiting the sites the old way.
There's more, but it's such uneducated drivel I can't be bothered going through it, feel free to read it yourself.
I'll leave you with this:
| This blog doesn't have trackback or syndication options. |
Syndicate Steven's site here.
Clueless...!

Beer belly?
I spotted this pic on apapop. My first reaction was to chuckle, but then I got thinking, this is a seriously good idea.
Talk about knowing your market...!

"I lovemark PDG Graphics"
I just finished listening to episode 2 of the ilovepdg podcast a.k.a The 2 Davids, the lads have seriously improved their production, and I must say, while it's loads better, I almost miss the crackle 'n buzz. Seriously though, this is what podcasting is about, too many of the 'casts I listen to sound like over-produced commercial radio shows. What these guys bring is good content delivered in a real, conversational, and authentic style (just like blogging). It made me think, and it made me laugh.
One of the questions raised in the episode was, "Who are your competitors?"
I have often wondered about this myself, I'd love to believe that as a presentation strategy and implementation firm in Johannesburg, South Africa, we really are in a category of one. However on reflection, we probably have one of the single largest competitor groups in the world. Our biggest competitors are our clients.
You see, when it comes to presentation, everyone's an expert. Every idiot who can double click a PowerPoint icon knows as much as we do.
This is my hell...!

EarthCore: first podcast-only novel
Scott Sigler has just released EarthCore:
| EarthCore is the world's first podcast-only novel: you can't find it in stores, you can't download the full audio, and the only way to find out what happens is to subscribe to the podcast. My goal is to generate 5,000 subscribers to this book, which will demonstrate the power of Podcasting and generate attention from publishers. |
And of course:
| ”This novel’s got it all: cutting-edge science; a perfectly-realized setting; terror both plausible and profoundly unsettling. EarthCore is more exciting than a thriller has any right to be!”
Lincoln Child New York Times bestselling author of Relic, Riptide & The Ice Limit. |
Today's download is the prologue. According to iPodlounge, the novel will run 20 episodes.
I have a strong feeling that you'll want to be getting on this bus early....!

Bonnie Tyler eat your heart out
This "remixed" version of the Bonnie Tyler classic, "Total Eclipse of the Heart" that B3ta found rocks. The video isn't particularly good, and it's not particularly funny, and yet I've watched it 3 times in the last thirty minutes and each time it gives me the giggles.
Well worth a download...!

Audible improved (just not by them)
The other day, Alexoid convinced me to install Greasemonkey for Firefox. There are loads of user scripts available, but the one that made the effort more than worthwhile for me was Paul Roub's Audible link-fix hack.
If, like me, you use Audible for your audio books (bet the podcasters have given them a scare) and like me, you absolutely hate that Audible force you to browse in one tab/window, this script is for you. Now you can open as many Audible pages as your heart desires, it just amazes me that it took a frustrated user to "hack" this one out, Audible need to start listening.
Oh and the google image re-linker rocks too, no more viewing that wee thumbnail, it's straight to the image for you.
Very bloody nice...!
Update: Episode II: The websites strike back.
Update 2: Paul has updated his audible script details/script

Happy is the link whore
I seriously wish people would stop bitching and moaning about The Scobe's link blog.
The few times he's linked here, our stats went through the roof. What was nice is each time a few people seemed to hang about. Isn't that what this is all about?
There really is no down side here, even if he posts your full post. The way I see it, you're not losing anything, the worst that can happen is that someone that didn't visit your blog in the past, may not be interested enough to visit it now.
If you don't want to get linked, it's real easy - get the fuck off the internet...!
