Parky breathes a sigh of relief

Parky-FaceMaybe my expectations were just too high, after all, this was a podcast with two bloggers on my "always read" list. However I just couldn't handle more than 22-minutes of the Tony & Johnnie show. Sorry lads, I hope you take this in the spirit in which it's given, but this didn't work.

My guess is that perhaps Tony shouldn't have chosen one of his best mates as his first guest, the conversation came across as somewhat contrived and at the times the rapport did seem natural, I felt like I was sitting in a coffee shop eavesdropping on two friends chatting.

The biggest thing for me was that I wasn't sure why I was supposed to be listening. The objective of the podcast wasn't clear and seemed somewhat random, maybe I just stopped listening too early. Sadly the Parky style interview, while nice in theory, simply doesn't warrant an hour of my time, even between two of my favorite bloggers. Which brings me to another point, podcasting and blogging while similar in delivery are extremely different mediums, a star at one could easily be a dud at the other.

I'll be looking out for the next one though, hopefully this was simply a poor dress-rehearsal...!

Had a "skim listen" to most of it - as I'm interested in this medium at the moment - but more as an int. comms channel for businesses?

Agree with Rich...! on the time. I think that 20-30mins "feels" like the right amount of time for a podcast in this space. I've listened to a few that are even shorter which is also cool...

I do listen to Adam Curry's daily source when it's 30-40mins - but when he does a 60min+ "special" I can't be arsed to listen to it - it's that old attention span thing... or maybe they just need to be niche events that will never appeal to the wider audience?

Anyway Tony and Johnnie - I'll also listen to the next one - on the basis that our first ilovepdg podcast (although a genius piece of comedy and design insight...) was technically ssssooo bad that we were genuinely pleased when people bothered to listen to the second and third ones...

Hi Rich, I have to agree with you and davidcoe on this. And I'm in the thing!

The sound quality definitely didn't help at times, either (probs with my settings at the time).

Thanks for having a listen anyway!

I'm excited about podcasts but I think they're a higher fence than blogs. Based on three I've been involved in, I realise it's going to take some practice to hit the tone of voice, content and length that justifies the effort of the listener.

Anyway, I'm a believer in the improv principle of the circus bow. Don't fear mistakes, take a bow and carry on!

Rich...! First time I've used the trackback feature - didn't know the main blog titlebar code showed up!

The one true "Jedi Muppet" is of course Yoda - so I've amended my blog to "Taoist Muppet" - having followed the religious path of least resistance to spiritual enlightenment over the past ten years.

Jedi becomes Buddhist becomes Taoist...
