"No, you let go first..."
I recently had the pleasure of working with Ben Saunders on a few road shows (more on this soon). Below Ben and an audience member demonstrate the mystery that is the sticky handshake.
I'd like to point out here that this phenomenon is usually neither parties' fault, in fact 9 times out of 10 they both want to disengage, and yet...
Apparently it was one of those soft-ish handshakes, just hard enough to achieve "lock-in". The lads obviously didn't get out after the mandatory third shake, in fact, they passed on into the pretty fatal static phase, you know, the one when you're no longer shaking, you're just two blokes holding hands. It was beautiful to watch. I chuckled quite a bit.
Mr Shaky-hand-man would be proud...!

Pedantic little footnote:
Phenomena = plural
Phenomenon = singular
Therefore, the opening sentence of the second paragraph should read: "I'd like to point out here that this phenomenon" etc. etc.
Thank you & goodnight
Posted by: Me2 | 7 Feb 2006 21:12:09
Well spotted, I've fixed it, thanks loads...!
Pedantic little footnote:
Isn't the second etc. superfluous? In fact, isn't the first one too?
;)

Definitely me (I'm still having flashbacks) although Rich did comment that Heinrich and I looked like long-lost brothers...

Yip, that's definitely Ben. I would have been running for the door by that time...

If you really want to split hairs, the use of an ampersand between "Thank you" and "goodnight" is not strictly correct.
The ampersand can be used in logos – as an aesthetic element, as well as to denote a collaboration between two people or entities, but shouldn't be used in text to replace the word 'and'.
